THE GUIDE TO BEING A #GIRLBOSS

When I created my Christmas wishlist, without telling anyone, this Sophia Amoruso book was at the top of the list. Despite having never once clicked onto the Nasty Gal website, I'd seen the cover photographed a million times and thought 'hey, if such and such has that book then it must be good'. It seemed like a must have.

Before reading a book, I try to avoid having expectations, there's nothing worse than feeling let down. Needless to say #GIRLBOSSes, this book most certainly does not disappoint.
'Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself' - George Bernard Shaw

It did take me quite a while to read, simply because I wanted to soak up every word and phrase of the book, whether it be on the train, at work or in bed. It felt like something special was happening.

It's a book about growing up, feeling lost, and being different before finding your way and being a successful business woman. Sophia tells her readers how she transitioned from dumpster-diving-shoplifting-thrift-shopping misfit to a multi-millions-dollar-company-founder-and-CEO #GIRLBOSS.

She proved that starting off on eBay, selling vintage finds could ultimately turn into the $100+ million company that would change the fashion e-commerce world.
'When you don't dress like anyone else, you don't  have to think like anyone else' - Iris Apfel

Sophia wrote in her book, 'Focus on the positive things in your life and you'll be shocked at home many positive things start happening. But before you start to think you just got lucky, remember that it's magic and you made it yourself '.

As a former pessimist, trust me I really was when I was younger, these words really hit me and pushed me to see things in a positive light, to change the way I view things and how I approach different times in my life.
'Confidence is more attractive than anything you could put on your body' - Sophia Amoruso

Parts of me can relate to Sophia and her story, okay so I didn't thieve or work crummy jobs or have a tough life, but I've felt alone, lost, unsure and like my life would never feel right again. It's horrible but it helps knowing someone else felt that way and made it through in the best way possible.

Things this book has taught me:
♥ In order to love fashion, you don't have to follow the trends, you are your own trendsetter.
♥ It's okay to be, and to feel, different.
♥ Work hard
♥ Save save save. At least 10% of every month's paycheck.
♥ Don't act like someone, be someone.
I can honestly say  that I've never felt so inspired by a book in my life. It made me believe that anything is possible and I'm sure it had the same effect on many of those who read it.

It doesn't matter if you aren't interested in fashion, this isn't really the point of the book, the point is to show how a woman can be empowering, take control of her own life and be tremendously successful.

I think we should all aspire to be a #GIRLBOSS.

If you have read the book, what are your thoughts on it?

MY FACE IS WORTH HOW MUCH?!

A few nights ago I was scrolling through Hanna's lovely blog (HannaTalksand found her post about the products she regularly uses in her beauty routine. Now, I'm not a beauty blogger, I'm actually quite poor when it comes to beauty, but over the past year I've really started to wear more products and purchased a silly amount of make-up.

It only seems right I give this a go then doesn't it?

Some of these items only became a staple in the past 2 months, but all of them are only my face almost daily.
Face:  Rimmel Stay Matte Powder  - £3.99  |  Topshop 'Head Over Heels' Cream Blush - £7.00  |  Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer - £4.19  |  Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat - £25.00  |  Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation  - £8.99
 Eyes:  L'Oreal Superliner - £6.99  |  Collection Little Mix 'Perrie' Mascara - £2.99  |  Maybelline Falsies - £7.99  |  Collection Little Mix All About The Eyes Palette - £3.19
Lips:  Lush Bubblegum Lip Scrub - £5.50  |  Burt's Bees Original Lip Balm - £3.69  |  Rimmel Kate Matte Lipstick '101' - £5.49  |  Topshop 'Back In The Game' Lip Bullet - £8.00
Brushes:  Topshop Eyebrow - £4.00  |  Real Techniques Stippling - £11.99  |  Real Techniques Expert Face - £9.99  |  Real Techniques Multi-Task - £20.99 (part of the Travel Essentials kit)
Skin Care:  No7 Beautiful Skin Day Cream - £13.50  |  Garnier Moisture Match Cream - £3.99  |  No7 Beautiful Skin Face Wipes - £7.00
The total is: £164.47

I'm not sure whether I'm really surprised because it's more than I thought, or whether it's less than I thought. Either, it's still a lot but considering how long all of these products last, it's not all that much really. Plus, I know I didn't really pay out all of that money on these products.

The majority of these items were purchased on promotional offers, gifted or purchased from cheaper online sources. Most of the prices were taken from the Boots or Superdrug websites. For the Real Techniques brushes, I would definitely recommend eBay or Amazon as they are much cheaper.

Have you worked out how much you spend on beauty products? Drop me a comment below with your total or a link to your posts.

Ps. My mum and I booked a trip to Paris today for May! Ahh!

THE MAGAZINE EDIT: HELLO FASHION MONTHLY

Since the devastating demise of Company's publication last October, I found myself saddened with only the constant promise of Vogue each month. Whilst I love the lavish clothes and the disgustingly beautiful designs that line it's pages, let's be real, I'm a twenty-one year old on a minimum wage. I'm in no position to spend £500 on a Moschino sweater or £1400 on a Saint Laurent bag (even if it's my favourite thing in the world).

I needed something with affordable fashion that wouldn't leave me bankrupt until the age of forty.
Truth be told, the moment I clapped eyes on issue #1 of Hello Fashion Monthly in the magazine section of WH Smith, I felt like my prayers had been answered.
With just the right amount of info, text and images, I was stunned by its mere £1 price tag. I figured it was a trial price but as the month ran into the next, I found the price had stayed the same!
At £12 a year, you can't pass up this awesome inspiring slice of fashion. It combines high street and high end, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

It might just leave room for me to subscribe to Porter or Elle!
Well done Hello!, you've really excelled yourself this time.

Do any of you lovely readers read this magazine?

Ps. There have actually been 3 issues but I've misplaced the latest issue, ooops!

BE A #GIRLBOSS AND BAKE!

Once again I found myself distracted with life to post this Christmas infused post, as I write I have one eye on my laptop and one eye on The Voice. Pretty sure I just want to keep looking at Rita & Ricky.

Christmas was another quiet one as usual, just lazing around with my mum and nan, eating food and watching television, opening presents, overdosing on chocolate and a roast dinner. Isn't Christmas time the best?!

It wasn't until around one-thirty in the afternoon that the three of us actually started opening presents, as I've got older I've really started to appreciate a chilled morning though. Did I mention I love chilling?
Truth be told, I didn't realise I had put so many books on my Pinterest wish list but I was so chuffed to receive them. Actually the Primrose Bakery book was a cheeky surprise from my best friend.

I'm so excited to use the Candy Pop film in my Instax camera! Also, who doesn't love perfume, false nails, CD's and DVD's for Christmas!

Seriously, how insanely cute are these? If there are three things I love, they are; Minnie Mouse, fashion and blogging, so this range from Tesco seems like it was made for me. I can't wait to use them for my planning this year.

I bought this the day after it was reduced from £60 to £29, it was a seasonal offer at Boots. Fast forward two weeks to Boxing Day and my godmother gifted me this too! Thankfully Boots accepted the return and I am so terribly grateful that this was gifted to me. I love Soap and Glory and I love that these are all full size products.

I started using Real Techniques brushes last year, after falling in love with the Stippling Brush, I had to put some more brushes on my wishlist. I was itching for the Expert Face Brush but I've been using the Multi Task Brush so much more than I expected. For someone not very au fait with make-up, I couldn't live without RT brushes.
I've mentioned how wonderful my best friend is (once or twice) before, but just before my birthday we were discussing our dreams of opening a coffee shop/bakery together. After banding many ideas around, she told me she had a bunch of ideas of what to buy me for Christmas, of course I was intrigued but I was so shocked to find these. Along with these wonderful pastel (!) baking goodies, she bought me the Primrose Bakery book and Daisy Lowe's 'Sweetness & Light' book so I'm all set to bake! She did also buy me Lush's 'Snow Fairy shower gel which is the greatest product in the world and the Bubblegum lip scrub as well as a bath bomb.

I was so terribly spoilt (I definitely didn't photograph everything I received) but oh so grateful for what I received. Thank you to everyone who helped make Christmas wonderful.

How was your Christmas? What did you get?

TRENDSETTER TUESDAY: TAYLOR SWIFT

Today marks the relaunch of my Trendsetter Tuesday feature and I couldn't be any more excited! I know it's been quite a long while since the last time I shared one of my style icons with you, but the new year produced new ideas and I decided this needed to make a comeback. This time it will be a little different, the first Tuesday of every month I will post a new trendsetter unlike the weekly feature it used to be. I can't stress how time consuming these posts are and it's just not feasible these days.

There was no hesitation when deciding on this months TT, my emotions for her have been like a light switch over the years, on and off like no ones business, but this time I think I'm going to love her for good. No switching back off.

Whilst being the most adorable popstar in the world (!) she's so wonderful with her fans, so so talented and has the raddest fashion sense ever. From her girly, patterned sundresses to her raunchy onstage attire, there's simply no telling what we will see her in from one day to the next.

It was hard condensing a selection of images to showcase her style, but below are a few strong examples of why I love her so.

She is the ultimate queen in her tartan co-ords as she is in her lace dresses.

Taylor, you're incredible.

YOU'RE ONLY 21 ONCE!

5 weeks have passed since my 21st birthday and it dawned on me that I am yet to share my birthday gifts with you lovely people. Not literally, obviously.

I did debate throwing the idea out but this year I promised to keep blogging consistently so it seems right to share just some of my gifts with you.
Basically my best friend is the greatest person in the world and bought me these things that I was hopelessly lusting after, and even bought my favourite tea and customised a mug for me with my favourite lyrics on! Seriously, isn't 1989 the best album ever?!
How beautiful are these pieces of jewellery? I sort of cheated a little, my mum gifted me the ring for my birthday but I received bracelet for Christmas, but it should have been a birthday gift too so we'll just move on. I'm a sucker for beautiful jewellery and I feel so swish in these.
The mental thing is, I received all of the shambala jewellery from different people who all managed to select something different from the range! To be honest, two people knew what the other was buying but a friend of mine made a very lucky guess and bought something different from the collection! I love to mix & match so now I can do it with my jewellery too.
It's no secret I'm a bit of a One Direction fan (okay, I'm a bit obsessed but shh), the first time I tried their new fragrance I was quite disappointed as I loved their previous two, but after a couple more sprays, I became unhealthily obsessed with it. It's lucky I worked in a fragrance shop for a couple of months because I wore this everyday without even having a bottle of my own! Fave fave fave.
This was an absolute shock of a present. As soon as I opened the gift bag from my nana, I nearly cried at the sight of a Dior bag, completely confused I unwrapped it from the Dior tissue paper (OMFG) and bought this beautiful perfume. It's not something I had asked for, nor had I tried it, but as soon as I did I was in love. I felt so spoilt!
Originally my godmother wanted to buy me this Crosley record player and the George Ezra 'Wanted On Voyage' vinyl, but after struggling she gave me the money and printed the webpage of both items, telling me the money was to purchase them. How thoughtful and incredible is that? So far I've bought the player, just not my precious George vinyl yet!

All in all, it was a pretty successful birthday, that's without all of the money I received (that's why there aren't as many presents here because I mostly received money)!

What things are you asking for for your birthday this year?

LET'S ACHIEVE IN 2015

[ Images from Pinterest]

We're 21 hours into the new year and up until two hours ago, I still hadn't noted down my goals for the year. I'm evidently 2015 latecomer.

I prefer setting yearly goals as opposed to resolutions, there's such a negative stigma around them and people see resolutions as something to inevitably be broken, goals are something we'd like to achieve but aren't deemed 'failures' if not done so.

This is something I've set myself for the past two years, I pin up a written list inside my wardrobe door and daily read it to see what i can achieve that day or week. It's motivating and produces a positive outcome. And with some many things I wish to do this year, I'm eager to start working on them, I've already spent part of the evening working and researching one.

Below are the 2015 goals.

♥  Exercise more
♥  Eat healthier
Photograph and document everything
♥  Blog at least twice a week
♥  Drink more water
♥  Visit London & Paris
♥  Get matching tattoos with Laura
♥  Work hard towards University
♥  Cross off places on my Places to Visit list
♥  Bake more
♥  BE POSITIVE

There are many more goals that I will discover and achieve throughout the year, many obstacles to overcome and many memories to be made.

I think 2015 will be my year.

What goals have you set for yourself this year?
