If there’s a reason I’ve been MIA for the longest time, it’ll be because I’ve been reading 1000% more than I’ve been reading. Okay, maybe that’s not entirely accurate, I’ve been reading infinity percent more than I’ve been writing seeing as that’s been a grand total of zero percent.
As a child, all I did was read, my head buried in a book escaping real life for a fiction one because it was vastly more appealing. I’m a typical ‘spend hours looking for, and buying, books but never reading them’ kinda gal, I fit that stereotypical reader trope. Until 2023 that is, my zest for reading hit me like an express train and I physically couldn’t put my book down for fear the words would evaporate before I turned the page. It’s full steam ahead when I’m immersed in a new world.
I’m a physical objects person, I have to have a book in my hand so I can thumb through the pages, inhale the fresh (or musty) smell of the paper, to experience that weightless feeling of closing the book after the last word and contemplate for a few moments. So naturally I’ve always repelled the idea of e-books, they’re a perfect concept, they’ve just never appealed to me because of the digital aspect of it. My only exception to this rule is going on trips because I’m a fashion girly who fills her luggage allowance with shoes and bags, there’s no weight left for seven books. When I’m lying in the sun, or inhaling an obscene amount of crisps after a tiresome afternoon of floating in the pool, I power on through and read at breakneck speed because I have no concept of where I’m at when reading on the Kindle app (unless I actively look at the page number/percent read).
With all of that being said, I’ve read so many great books on Kindle 2 years with Amazon practically giving books away at 99p or £1.99, far cheaper than what I’ve been able to get a physical book for, so I’ve been swayed. Seeing as I spend upwards of 2 hours commuting daily, having a book at my disposal has been a godsend and the reason I smashed my reading goal last year and already over half way through on book 5 of the year and we're only in the 2nd week of February! If I’ve finished my paperback on the bus to town, I know I can pop onto my phone and find a book I’ve downloaded, it’s the perfect way to unwind when life is getting stressful or it’s been a long day.
Now I’ve given you my life story, somewhat boring I know, I’m divulging into my top reads from the past 2 years, the (mostly) spicy rom-com books that I absolutely can’t get enough of (there’s definitely a hint from life that I really need to do something real about this but I’m totally not getting into that on my public blog), the ones usually titled ‘TIKTOK MADE ME BUY IT’, you know the ones you saucy devils.
They’re addictive, funny, easy to read and have helped me smash through my reading list over the last year because I can’t seem to put them down. In no order (because I hate ranking things), they are;

I'm off to continue reading an F1 romance to ignore another single Valentine's Day.
