FASHION GOES TECHNO

Cortexica's findSimilar̢㢠software leverages sophisticated algorithms to mimic how the brain interprets images
Technology has been impacting the world around us more and more over the past few years with an upgrade of something every six months or a new discovery being launched for all to see, and fashion, well for once fashion is no exception. Did you find yourself swooning over Alexa Chung’s striped knit sweater on Day 2 of LFW and wanted to know immediately where you could get your mitts on it? Did you see incredible street style at Somerset House but didn't dare ask where their vivacious midi skirt was from and settled for taking a picture of them, hoping you’d find it on the 'net soon?

Well with the way technology has advanced, you no longer have to be stressing over spending countless hours trawling the web and pulling your hair out in frustration. This year has seen the rise of Visual Search technology, helping apps launch using image recognition software, such as Style Thief, it’s taken the fashion world by storm. With just a camera snap and a few clicks, a collation of products, either similar or matching the garments in the image, are available at your fingertips ready to purchase.

The sharp image recognition software comes courtesy of UK company (based in Imperial College London) Cortexica, who have enabled such apps to take a photograph, run an image search and purchase all within minutes.

Social media has already left the most impressionable mark on the fashion industry with backstage and front row access made readily available to anyone and everyone, it’s time to take another step forward  and use those platforms combined with online shopping to give customers the full experience that they crave and understand. It’s new and exciting and makes shopping from your mobile device easier than ever.

Thankfully with this technology, future fashion weeks will be made a lot easier as we will be able to shop the catwalks and the wonderful Street Style instantly as well as within our day to day encounters. It’s become a firm favourite with designers and retailers as Cortexica’s work and production of FindSimilar has narrowed the gap from simply seeing an item and being able to actually purchase it as the pieces can be easily identified with help from their software.

Why wait until next season when you can be fashion forward right now? With this software being created for such apps now available at hand on your smartphone, your life (and Fashion Week) has just got a whole lot easier.

Stay amazing xox
