Since I was a child I've sat down in front of the television each year to watch the unveiling of the award winners either with glee or disdain. This year I was filled with a little of each feeling, though my feelings and interests nowhere near as strong as those of my teenage self. Before watching or knowing of the nominees, I was routing for One Direction and Bastille to be victorious, they seemed to be all that mattered (sadness overpowering me that Ben Howard was nowhere in sight after his two category win last year).
I literally jumped around, flailing over One Direction's Best Video win. I'm sure my mum will be keeping her distance in future. Perhaps I smiled a little too wide upon seeing Bastille with an award in their hand too.
Nevertheless, whilst music fuels me like no other, a distinct major part of award ceremonies for me is the fashion in which the stars showcase. Some good, some not so A List. Without further ado, here are my best and worst dressed stars.
(L-R) Kimberly Walsh, Laura Whitmore, Beyoncé, Nicole Scherzinger
Kimberley Walsh looked gorgeous in this Blumarine gown with its sheer body and nude bodycon under-dress. I like to think it's understated whilst being kinda divine.
If you have seen this weeks Trendsetter Tuesday, you'll know how much I adore really like Laura Whitmore and her style. I'll admit, I was really unsure on this dress the moment I saw it, in fact it took a good pondering before I decided I was totally on board with it and now I think I'm quite a fan. It's unusual and edgy (something Laura is not adverse to) and a perfect combination of punk and sexy. This Hasan Hejazi number may not have been everyone's favourite choice but I'm not complaining!
The moment Beyoncé stepped onto the stage to sing her very first live performance of XO, my jaw hit the floor. That Vrettos Vrettakos turquoise sequin mermaid-esque gown seems to be the talk of the BRITs fashion and there is no doubt why. It hugged her hips and curves to perfection as if the dress had been created around her by Cinderella's mice themselves. Speechless.
One word to describe Ms Scherzinger has always been fierce, and this outfit proves exactly why, with the edge of the leather bralet and sleek black trousers mixed with The Kooples blazer and golden accessories of the studding and choker to bring the drama to life, you can't help but fall a little in love with her.
(L-R) Annie Mac, Caroline Flack, Ella Eyre, Fearne Cotton, Iggy Azalea
The queen of Radio 1 showed up to the awards in this House of Holland jacquard starburst disco dress which I thought was such a cute outfit teamed with silver platformed heels. Annie Mac is back.
It's no secret that I'm quite the Flack fangirl so it shouldn't come as a surprise when I fell in love with this navy Paper London playsuit paired with floral Missguided heels and white medium width belt. Go Flackers!
The ever so sweet Ella Eyre (who won a joint award with Rudimental for their summer smash Waiting All Night) rocked it in this Dolce & Gabbana leopard print dress which complimented her beautiful hair in the most gorgeous way.
Fearne Cotton has to be one of the most precious people on the planet whilst being the coolest and sweetest soul (I can vouch for this seeing as I have met the fabulous woman) and she has been known for her impeccable style since the year dot. This short metallic silver number dazzled and showed how wonderful her figure is even after giving birth just a year ago. I'm finding a love for silver.
Iggy Azalea really wowed us all in this floor-length red Elie Saab dress which showed a much more elegant and classier side to the Australian rapper. She sure cleans up well.
(L-R) Lily Allen, Pixie Lott, Rita Ora, HAIM, Tanya Burr
I may be a little in love with this House of Holland dress (maybe I just adore Henry Holland himself) and I love love love how it compliments her vivid yellow hair extensions. She looks funky and fresh and the right side of awesome for her award presenting job.
Pixie Lott flawed us all in this white floor length DKNY gown complete with side split and metallic Sophia Webster heels.
Here comes one of my ultimate girl crushes, Ms Rita Ora. This Prada canary yellow dress with emerald stones made my jaw drop as how stunning she looked. Its plunging neckline sure caused a stir.
Oh. My. God. Just look at the HAIM girls. If you can't see the image well enough then google it because they absolutely nailed their outfits clad in Saint Laurent. I appreciate the fact the girls all opted for a different look, one in a skirt and boots, another in a blazer, trousers and heels and another in a classy floor length number that set them apart in the most flawless way. I loved it so much that I couldn't help but Instagram about it!
Tanya Burr is so darling anyway, but the blogger/vlogger looked sweet as pie in this silver and black block a-line Coast striped dress. I'm pretty sure Jim Chapman's adorable fiancée can do no wrong.
(L-R) Peaches Geldof, Neon Jungle, Myleene Klass, Laura Mvula
Ms Geldof showed up in a River Island ensemble that just seemed all too odd to me. I'm definitely a fan of crop tops and knee length skirts, as an idea this outfit ticks all of my boxes, however it looks awkward and plain and too boring on Peaches.
As soon as I saw girl group, Neon Jungle, I was utterly speechless. Despite the fact they are an edgier group who like to take risks, everything looked awful and they did not compliment each other well. I'm not sure if their stylist pushed them into this or they all had poor judgement, but this was a total mess.
Let's all take a moment to pray for Myleene for she seems to have lost her sanity. There literally isn't any one aspect of this outfit that is deemed moderately okay. This neon yellow sheer clingy dress is utterly hideous in it's own right, but paired with black knickers and nothing to conceal them, it's so wrong that I'm utterly embarrassed for her. It'll take Myleene some serious wardrobe choices when she next steps out on the red carpet for her to redeem herself and for the ridicule to stop.
New kid on the block, Laura Mvula, unfortunately was off the mark in this monochrome short dress with ruffled train. It looked messy and the train was just more of a train-wreck than anything. Your music is amazing Laura, but your stylist needs to rethink her ideas for you.
(L-R) Kylie Minogue, Jessie J, Aluna Francis, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Sara Cox
When I told my mum that I wasn't impressed by Kylie's dress, she replied with 'She's 40, she can't dress like a teenager', but my oh my do I wish she had opted for that route rather than this. She's gorgeous and has a fantastic figure which leads me to question why she chose this particular William Wilde dress? Whilst it hugs her perfectly, it's so many shades of wrong and and I'm trying so hard to ignore those bows. Sorry Kyls, this was not a good look.
The world and his wife have seemed to have ridiculed this Julien Macdonald nude mirrored jumpsuit and I can definitely see why. Whilst the concept is heading in the right direction, it doesn't contrast too well with Jessie's pale complexion, it completely washes her out and that lilac lipstick looks god awful. Fair play to her though as she addressed the bad lip choice on twitter and told us all to 'move on'.
One half of British duo AlunaGeorge had my head in a flurry of questions. Why? What? Are you for real? Are you feeling okay? Did you actually look in the mirror? This Antonio Berardi coral-y pink piece (I'm not sure what to call it because it's a poor version of a dress) was simply wrong wrong wrong. It's sheer shirt and flowing hi-low skirt was completely confusing.
Supermodel RHW is so stunning, and for how flawless she usually looks, I so desperately wanted to store her in my best dressed category but I was so torn and ended up placing her here. This shimmering deep red and black zebra print Saint Laurent mini dress just simply wasn't up my street. But she could make a bin liner look high fashion so what would I know? (Most people have disagreed with me on this choice anyway).
Sara Cox is Radio 1's Northern lass (in case you didn't know) and arguably one of the most hilarious people on the radio. It seems her humourous side favoured her sensible side when choosing an outfit for the awards. I really don't know how to address this black floral dress with pink insert. It looks like a very mumsy dress cut short and not something you expect to see on a red carpet. Anywhere. Sorry Sara, this was just not a good idea.
Bastille & One Direction looking handsome and dapper for the awards, not so skinny jean boy banders er... kinda.
(L-R) Tinie Tempah, Nick Grimshaw, Sam Smith
Who were your best and worst dressed and did you agree with the award winners?
Stay amazing xox
